Estepona has the unusual charm of being a working town and a busy tourist hotspot, whilst still maintaining much of its Spanish ‘pueblo’ characteristics; with cobbled streets framed by colourful flowering pots and cafes for lazy afternoons watching the world go by.

The town accommodates a rich mixture of both Spanish and Expat residents, which the property market reflects. 2 bed apartments starting at around €35,000 and detached villas found for sale at around €169,000, make Estepona a great option to buy, as purely a smart investment or a residential home.

This area of the Costa del Sol arguably has some of the finest beaches on offer, including two that have been awarded Blue Flag status. La Rada Beach being only a short walking distance from the town centre of Estepona with a wonderful promenade that stretches the full 3 kilometres.

For those wishing to soak up the culture, there is a bountiful offer of history to explore within the town. There are a number of art murals and sculptures to see and ample museums and historic landmarks to investigate. A few hours spent walking around Estepona allows you to get a real feeling for the extensive history of the town spanning several hundred years.

Paris may have won the favour of Disney Land instead of Estepona, but what they lack is Selwo Safari Park, a fabulous space and family day out; housing approximately 2000 animals in open and visible conditions. The park is only a twenty-minute drive from Estepona, with public transport available, and even offers a fun safari-themed hotel and huts for those not able to tear themselves away for an evening.

Although the nightlife isn’t as energetic as the nearby upmarket town of Puerto Banus, only 22km away, Estepona is not short of offerings. The working port for example has an assortment of restaurants serving superb seafood dishes with el fresco terraces, and there are a good number of late-night bars offering live music and dancing.

A lovely part of southern Spain and worth serious consideration for those wishing to live, work or visit this part of the coast.
